Room Sizes

Room size is the first thing worth checking before buying a table. The figures below allow enough clearance to use a full-length cue on every shot.

Recommended room dimensions

• 7 foot table (7 by 3 1/2 feet): a room about 17 by 13 1/2 feet.
• 8 foot table (8 by 4 feet): a room about 18 by 14 feet.
• 9 foot table (9 by 4 1/2 feet): a room about 19 by 14 1/2 feet.

If a room is tight in one direction, a shorter cue can be used for shots against that rail, though it is a compromise rather than a substitute for clearance.

What a table adds to a room

• A shared activity that brings people into the same room rather than separate screens.
• A natural way to entertain guests without having to plan around it.
• A reason for younger family members to spend time at home, and a painless introduction to angles and geometry.
